First Cut! Film Festival will take place on Saturday October 2nd, 2010. A must for all enthusiastic young film makers, the 2010 Festival will take place at Cork County Hall, a free venue central to all participating groups with access to meeting and screening rooms.
The Festival will be a lively, informative, creative and fun mix of short films, also providing free workshops. This year we are delighted to have financial support from The Arts Council, SECAD and Cork County Council Arts Office.
It provides an opportunity for young people in the Cork Harbour Area to screen their work and view the work of their peers. The First Cut! Film Festival was launched on a trial basis as a one day event in 2009 with the aim of providing a programme of screenings of films made by young Cork people, workshops and talks by guest filmmakers. The success of this event and the response of the young people involved in it has provided the impetus to develop a more extensive festival in 2010.
One of the main aims of this year’s Festival is to showcase and celebrate the work of the young filmmakers who have participated in First Cut! Workshops and Summer Schools throughout 2010 and who are keen to share and compare their experiences with other young people involved in film making. This exciting event will premiere new work by young film makers on the big screen. It also provides opportunity for interaction with other film making groups, contact with professional film makers through workshops, networking, and information sharing designed to bridge the gap between beginners and professional film makers.
Workshops and discussion groups at this year’s Festival are varied and stimulating and range from Animation to no budget, guerilla film-making. (See Attached doc. for more info. On all workshops on offer). We continue to build on links we have already made with Fresh, Corona, and Leeds Film and Midsummer's Festivals. The screening programme will feature short films, 16 in all, made by the various youth film groups in the SECAD/ Cork Harbour area, ranging from work by newcomers to more ambitious films, made in the various centres during 2009-10.
Running on Saturday 2 October, from 2-8pm, the event is free and is now open to the public at large, hopefully encouraging other young people who are interested in film making to become actively involved.
