Good news!!
Jerzy Skolimowski’s ‘Essential Killing’ has scooped the Special Jury Prize, the CinemaAvvenire Award and the Coppa Volpi prize for its lead actor, Vincent Gallo (Buffallo 66) at the 67th Venice Film Festival. The event also saw victory for Irish born filmmaker, David O’Reilly. The animator, who is now based in Germany, saw his latest piece, ‘The External World’ chosen as the Venice Short Film Nominee for the European Film Awards.
Essential Killing is an Irish/Polish/Norwegian/Hungarian co-production and tells the story of an Afghan man captured by Americans in Jabul and ends up somewhere in Europe where he has to kick extreme survival mode into gear. Essentially (sorry) he has to kill anyone who comes his way!
Essential Killing will arrive in Irish cinemas sometime before the end of the year!
UPDATE – Just been talking to the distributor, Element Pictures, and they have no set release date as of yet, but say its looking like a quarter 1 release next year!
