Previously, it was mentioned that Tony Gilroy (Bourne movies writer person) will direct the 4th Bourne movie. The movie is not going to be a reboot or a prequel. It’s going to be a completely original screenplay. That’s according to Tony Gilroy, who know has another issue on his hands. Namely Jason Bourne himself, Matt Damon, who will NOT be returning as the super ass kickin’ one time spy. Speaking to Hollywood Elsewhere Gilroy goes on to say “No one's replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter...this is a stand-alone project.”
Make what you will of this, but, without sounding disingenuous to Tony Gilroy, a Bourne movie surely needs Jason Bourne. Otherwise call it something else, surely?
Imagine buying a Bugatti Veyron. On the outside the badge says Bugatti. Then when you open the door, it’s a Toyota.
Imagine ordering a tasty piece of Rib Eye. It lands on your table, and looks like rib-eye. But when you taste it, it’s bunny!
Personally, I can’t see how this is going to work at all. It’s a great opportunity for Gilroy to flex the directorial muscle (previously he directed Michael Clayton and Duplicity) but does this not sound like a career denting cash in? Sorry!
