Light years ahead of my time they may have been, but I enjoy 1950's TV series'. From Bonanza to The Twilight Zone, there's just something about the era that's pretty damn cool. So to me the announcement of Gore Verbinski (director of Pirates Of The Caribbean 1, 2 & 3) signing on to direct a big screen version of the serial, The Lone Ranger is great news. As well as the announcement of Verbinski, long time partner-in-crime, Johnny Depp has also been tapped to star as the Lone Ranger's sidekick, Tonto. The TV series told the story of a mysterious ranger, accompanied by his Indian friend Tonto, travelling the old west and doing as many good deeds as possible.
Judging by the source material, I'd imagine Verbinski is going for a lighthearted tone with this one, as the show was very child orientated.
