An exciting concept well executed with extra gore, Seth Grahame-Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies may have been responsible for spawning a whole host of dreadful copy-cat zombie/horror takes on classic novels, but it can be forgiven for that...if only because it helped jump-start a seriously flagging book market. It was only a matter of time before the book was adapted for the screen and Slash Film has just reported that Mike White is set to direct. White's only other work as director was on the 2007 Year of the Dog, which he also wrote. In fact, White is better known for his work as a screenwriter having penned Orange County (2002), The Good Girl (2002), School of Rock (2003) and Nacho Libre (2006). For those of you unfamiliar with the plot line of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, basically it's about an overbearing mother who can't wait to marry her daughters off to the nearest wealthy bachelor. One of these daughters, Elizabeth, the strong, feisty type, embarks on a love/hate relationship with the misunderstood Mr. Darcy. Add to this a plague of zombies waiting to eat the Bennett sisters and their courtiers at every turn and you have quite an enjoyable read. Well, to be honest, it sounds much better than it is. But, of course, I will be going to see it when it come out...but only because I have a thing for seeing zombies on the big screen.
