While the remake wheels keep turning, Warner Bros. is in the early stages of planning a reimagining of the 1939 classic, The Wizard Of Oz. Sources over at Deadline say that the studio is looking to adapt directly from the original Oz script. As all this goes on, Sam Raimi is hard at work developing his own interpretation (Oz: The Great And Powerful) over at Disney. Lots of interest in the material all of a sudden! It seems a pity that if the remake does go ahead, generations to come will likely have no idea about the original or who the bloody hell Judy Garland is.
And to be honest, I think I'd much rather see Raimi's take on the original story...The Evil Oz 2?
