John Carpenter excels at giving me nightmares. From Halloween, The Thing and The Fog right down to Prince Of Darkness and They Live. The man is a genius, so when I'd heard negative buzz from Sitges and the Toronto Film Festival surrounding his latest, The Ward, I was crushed. Could it be, his triumphant return to the big screen is actually just a work-to-pay-the-mortgage type gig? Well, judging from the first trailer just released from Warner Bros, I think it's safe to say it's the former. The Ward seems just great. The flick tells the story of a young girl (Amber Heard) whose institutionalized after an accident. Once she arrives at the ward however, she finds out there's a ghost haunting the halls and killing the patients. The Ward goes on limited release January 21st.
