Whilst it was a great shame to see Guillermo Del Toro leave The Hobbit, Peter Jackson stepping in to direct was welcome news indeed. One thing I loved about the run up to King Kong was his video-blogging and frequent updates online, which managed to give loads of interesting insights into the actual making of the film as opposed to spoiling the story or set pieces. After what seemed like an eternity, The Hobbit is finally underway in New Zealand and once again, Jackson is videoblogging.
Even if you have only a casual interest in the film the first video is a must-see. Not only do you get a look at some of the beautiful sets (remember them? Actual sets!!) but you get a look at the cast and crew working together as the film begins. There's a great sense of enthusiasm and love for the project and you just cannot help but be excited. Much more exciting than, say, behind the scenes footage of nothing but greenscreen.
You can check out the video on Jackson's facebook.
