Speed Racer was amazing and I am not ashamed to say that - it deserved SO much more praise. That said, it's clear that people want something a bit more grown up from the Wachowski brothers, considering how it flopped hugely.
Well, good news then as they are readying their version of megaselling novel Cloud Atlas. The novel is pretty broad and complex, indeed suited to the broad and complex minds of the Matrix duo;
A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan’s California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified “dinery server” on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilisation — the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other’s echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.*
Not exactly a brisk holiday read then.
Now via Collider, we have some casting news. Whilst at Cannes they've announced the very talented Hugo Weaving, Halle Berry and Ben Whishaw will all be cropping up, and considering this is also directed by Tom Twkyer of Run Lola Run fame, this could be very interesting indeed. Expect more news on production when/if it makes a sale at Cannes.
