After Toy Story 3 last year, you could forgive Pixar for taking a break and not going full steam ahead with releases straight away, but that's not their style. This summer we have Cars 2, and they've got both Brave and Monsters University in production too. As a big car lover and Pixar fan, I really enjoyed Cars but I know it wasn't a favourite with everyone, so the anticipation isn't as high for this years sequel. Brave, however, is a different kettle of medieval fish.
Billed as Pixar's first fairy tale, the movie is set in Scotland (Highlands) where rebellious Princess Merida causes a few problems in her kingdom that lead to all-out turmoil and suffering. In order to sort it out, she seeks out a witch for help. Proper fairy tale stuff then, and great material for Pixar. It features a spectacular voice cast including Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Kelly MacDonald, Julie Walters and Robbie Coltrane, and is apparently an ode to Hans Christen Anderson style tales. Now, via /film we have our first look at the Princess herself. Expect a trailer before Cars 2 in the summer, with the movie out June 22, 2012.
