I like Steve Carell. A lot of people do, actually, mainly thanks to a few standout performances in comedies, like Anchorman and The 40 Year Old Virgin. He's great in The Office too - if you like that sort of thing. However, his movie choices haven't been so great. Evan Almighty, Date Night, Dan in Real Life are all pretty average to awful, not really betraying the talent he actually has. Whilst I'd love to see him do another comedy with Will Ferrell, he's now lined up for a movie that does show promise.
The director of Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (y'know, with KAT DENNINGS) Lorene Scafaria is preparing Seeking A Friend At The End Of The World, a title that quite accurately describes the film itself. The world is on the way out, with a big ol' asteroid on the way and no Bruce Willis to stop it. Carell will play a man who, after his wife leaves him, goes in search of his childhood sweetheart in time for the apocalypse. Sounds interesting, yes?
The rest of the cast is looking good too, with Variety reporting that Keira Knightley, Adam Brody and William Petersen all signed on. Sounds like it could be good - Nick & Norah had it's charms and the cast on this isn't conventional comedy-film casting, so I'm optimistic this could be a good move for Carell.
Another Get Smart would be nice though....
