I don't think anybody expected 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' to be such a huge hit, but evidently that is what it became. I saw it (on a plane) and it was pretty weak, but Kevin James did his best with the material. Since then he has become more and more of a box office draw, very much in the Adam Sandler mould (they're friends, and Sandler's company produces lots of his movies) in stuff like The Dilemma and Grown-Ups. Now he's headlining a big family summer movie, and no doubt the expectations are a bit higher for 'Zookeeper'.
Nothing revelatory about the plot, which sees a zookeeper consider leaving his job to gain the love of his woman (Leslie Bibb) only to find out the animals can talk. Some of the voices include Sylvester Stallone and Cher as lions!! As you can see from the trailer, it's pretty family-friendly stuff, and should do well. Even if you aren't the target market you'll still see that good material or not, James has pretty good comic skills - he knows what he's doing. All the more excuse to show and AMAZING coin-toss clip from his old sitcom, Kings of Queens. Check out both below - The Zookeeper opens July 8, and just think, it could be a lot worse. It could be Rob Schneider.
