Recently Hellboy creator Mike Mignola said, with regret, that he doubts Guillermo Del Toro will ever make a sequel to the incredible Hellboy 2. Sad news for sure, but not surprising considering Del Toro is linked to a new movie every five seconds.
However, recently when talking to Shock Til You Drop he at least suggested that he wanted to make the third movie, but due to scheduling Ron Perlman will be ‘HellMAN and in a wheelchair’ – which is a lovely thing for Ron to look forward to at least.
What can we take from this? There’s no doubt he’d do it if he could, but with giant monster movie Pacific Rim in the works it’s definitely not happening for a long time. That movie now has a release date, July 13 – slap bang in the middle of the summer and perfect timing for a movie with robots fighting monsters. He has told the press of how it’s his biggest project yet, so whilst we can lament the lack of Hellboy 3 for now, at least we have that to anticipate. Could be a lot worse, eh? Hellboy 2 was a hit but not big enough for a studio to rush another one, so luckily we don’t have to face the prospect of a Brett Ratner Hellboy.
