With strong roles in movies such as Thor and a hit tv show to his name, Idris Elba is mentioned in plenty of casting rumours and discussions lately. Most recently he's been linked to the lead role in Tarantino's 'Django Unchained', a role I seriously hope he takes. However now theres another rumour that would have him going in a different direction - a part in Guillermo Del Toro's 2013 'Pacific Rim'.
As we know Elba tweeted about a 'controversial meeting with controversial director' and really, Pacific Rim doesn't pertain to that. Unless it's some gigantic allegory, the Aliens Vs. Robots blockbuster won't be courting much controversy. So there's still a chance that he's going to be taking on Django as well as this. Charlie Hunnam is tapped to lead Pacific Rim, but as of now there are no other cast announced - goes without saying that Elba would be a great addition too. There was also a few rumours going around that he was in the running for a potential Luke Cage movie with Marvel, but I'd say that won't happen. Why? Well, he's already in Thor, and seeing as Marvel Studios have all their movies in the one universe, he couldn't do both.
You'll be able to see Elba in Prometheus next year, and of course his BBC show, Luther.
