The Lion King 3D clawed in (sorry) $29.3 million in 3 days, from 2330 sites in the USA. So, to put that another way…
It is the first re-issue to open at Number One in 14 years , since RETURN OF THE JEDI – SPECIAL EDITION.
It is the biggest opening Gross for a re-issue since STAR WARS –SPECIAL EDITION , again some 14 years ago.
It is the 2nd Biggest September opening in Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures history and the 5th Biggest September opening in industry history.
Which, love or hate it, is pretty phenomenal. It is great to see “old school” animation still proving its worth in the days of render farms and what not. John Lasseter (being a huge fan of the old school stuff) must be on his way to infinity and beyond.
The Lion King hits cinemas in Ireland & the UK on October 7th.
