Lionsgate Studios has today optioned the rights to the hugely successful video game, Dead Island. The studio bought the rights from it's developers Deep Silver, whom will begin work with Lionsgate in bringing the game to life for the big screen. In the game, a group of tourists are trapped in a paradise-turned-death trap when a virus transforms it's population into undead monsters. Sean Daniel will produce. No word yet on who will star, direct or write the project, but I'd imagine with the game shipping over 2 million units since it's release, the studio will likely fast track it's production.
Personally, the game looks pretty generic to me, so I'm not that blown away by this news. Are you excited for a Dead Island game?
Via Deep Silver.
