Unsurprisingly, Ridley Scott’s latest foray into sci-fi has been pretty much shrouded in secrecy for the past few months. There was a panel at comic-con, but we’ve yet to see any footage elsewhere or indeed, find out much in the way of plot details. Which is great, really – I’m sure many of you are getting spy-shot fatigue from The Dark Knight and The Avengers, so it’s pretty cool having the movie kept so well hidden so far.
On the official facebook for the movie, however, they’ve updated the synopsis – whilst it may not give much away, it’s still good for fuelling the imagination:
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
Pretty spoiler-free, wouldn’t you say? And yet, hints abound. It doesn’t take much to find one or two supposed plot descriptions online, so be sure to look for them if you want to see how (if at all) they might tie into this little blurb. There has been lots of talk of how the movie is in the same universe as the Alien movies, so it will certainly be interesting to see how ‘origin of mankind’ and ‘mythology’ links into that. There’s no doubting that this is one of my most anticipated movies of next year – pretty impressive considering how little we know. Prometheus, starring Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, comes out next June.
