Men In Black 3 has had a bit of a turbulent shoot, to put it mildly. For a start, it was divided into two big parts, with no finished script when they started shooting. That’s nothing new – both Iron Man movies had an unfinished script at first – but other factors caused trouble with the production, including Alec Baldwin (The Worlds Greatest Actor) pulling out due to scheduling, and even Will Smith getting in trouble for parking a trailer bigger than the moon near the set in New York.
But putting the woes aside, there’s a chance that a good movie could still emerge. The story takes on a time-travel element with Agent J (Smith) going back to the sixties and teaming up with Agent K (Josh Brolin), the younger version of Tommy Lee Jones’ character. Also in the cast are Emma Thompson as modern day Agent O with Alice Eve playing her younger counterpart. Rip Torn returns as the head of MIB too.
Considering the time-travel element it will be interesting to see what they do with the aliens this time around, and now ShockTilYouDrop are reporting that they will indeed be retro style extra terrestrials.
Speaking to special effects God Rick Baker about the film, he said;
"The thing that's cool is there is a time travel element [to the story]," he says, "Where I had fun is that we go back to the Men in Black headquarters of the '60s. The first thing I said is that we should have retro aliens, not aliens of 2012. More based on B-movies of the '50s and '60s. So, a lot of the aliens are based on that. Space suits with fishbowl helmets and ray guns."
Sounds good, doesn’t it? Men In Black 2 was a bit hit & miss but hopefully the new sixties element will breathe new life into the 3D movie, which is set for release on May 25, 2012 directed by Barry Sonnenfield with a reported budget of 200million plus. That’s a lot of ray guns.
