Fresh off this year's prequel to The Thing, junior scream-queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead has joined the indie drama, Smashed. She'll star alongside the greatest living actor under 35* (Aaron Paul) as a couple whose relationship is based on their mutual love of alcohol. While that may sound like the logline for a hilarious gross-out flick, Smashed will take more of a somber route as it's being described as a 'dramedy'. Also in negotiations to star are Octavia Spencer (The Help) and Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation). James Ponsoldt is directing from a script by Susan Burke.
*I wholeheartedly mean that. There is not a single actor, regardless of gender, who has shown better work than what Paul's produced on AMC's Breaking Bad. Like a young Pacino in Panic In Needle Park, I get the feeling he's about to hit the big time.
