Ghost-based comedies are an extremely mixed bag when it comes to success. For every Ghostbusters, there’s a Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Will Rentaghost be one of the more memorable ones? It certainly has a decent premise – a recently dead man decides to make something of himself in death, renting out ghosts to the living. And with Ben Stiller on board, it certainly has star power.
Showblitz report today that Stiller has signed on, replacing Russell Brand. This is no huge surprise seeing as the movie will be written by the same scribes responsible for Night at the Museum, another genre comedy hit for Stiller. The original premise stems from an old BBC tv show which ran from 1976-84. With this and Dark Shadows, not to mention today’s news of an adaptation of Lost in Austen, could we be seeing an emerging trend for adaptations of cult or older tv shows?
