It was announced this week that Warner Bros. were gunning for Garrett Hedlund as the lead in their upcoming remake of Akira. While the Tron Legacy actor has yet to sign on in an official capacity, the studio have gone ahead and offered several other roles to other actors. Twitch is reporting that Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter have been offered the roles of Colonel & Lady Miyako. It's important to remember that the studio has just offered them the role, this does not mean they've been cast. They still have the opportunity to reject the role if uninterested.
I'm still in awe that a live-action Akira is being made. And not necessarily in a good way. Neo-Manhattan? Garrett Hedlund? Jaume-Collet Serra (I actually enjoy most of his films, but he cannot do this justice)? Hmm.
