One man who’s star is certainly rising is versatile and in demand actor Michael Fassbender, the “X-Men: First Class” star has two movies coming out before the year’s end stateside. In Shame (opening in Irish cinemas January 13th 2012) he plays Brandon, a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women while feeding his desires with a compulsive sexual disorder. In A Dangerous Method he plays Dr. Carl Jung, a driven psychiatrist who decides to treat a very complicated patient with “talking cure.” An experimental treatment method devised by his mentor Sigmund Freud.
Rumour has it the director José Padilha covets him for the RoboCop reboot which is scheduled for a 2013 release, while he hasn’t confirmed anything regarding the project he does appear to be keeping his options open.
He had this to say when questioned in collider:
Question: Because of all of the success that you’ve had recently, there are lots of rumours that you are attached to all sorts of great projects. Is RoboCop something that you’d like to do?
MICHAEL FASSBENDER: “You know, I’m always open. I’ll take a look at the script and sit down with the director and have a conversation. It’s not definitely like, “Oh, I’ve got to play RoboCop before I retire.” I don’t have that about anything. I don’t go, “I have to play the Dane one day, or Hamlet.” I don’t really think like that. I just wait and see what comes up, and I’m always open to it. If I react to the script, then I’m up for anything.”
Question: Would you dread wearing a metal suit?
FASSBENDER: “No. It could be kind of fun. It could be kind of good to have a helmet that I could hide behind, for most of the film, too. That sounds kind of appealing.” It seems that whatever leading roles are up for grabs in the future, Michael Fassbender is sure to be a leading contender.
