One of my favourite short films of recent times is Blinky, Irish director Ruairi Robinson’s brilliantly crafted story of a boy and his robot. It looks spectacular and has a dark, sharp sense of humour – , I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Robinson has been on the radar for a while after being nominated for a short-film Oscar a few years ago, and was even rumoured to direct Akira at one point (we can lament that now). The Hollywood Reporter now bring the news that he’s signed on for his first feature, The Last Days of Mars, which depicts a crew of astronauts thrown into danger when one of them gets re-animated by an alien lifeform.
Robinson clearly has an eye for sci-fi and this could be hugely promising – I mean, the title alone suggests something pretty unique! Check out his work here
