Right, you know that camera you have in your phone, or the camera that you once used to videotape your neighbours? You do, great! Well, you know that movie you always wanted to make? Remember how you said you’d remake Star Wars and make it better than what George Lucas made? Well…read on..and maybe represent Ireland at the Jameson Empire Awards.
Jameson and Empire are once again asking all super-talented film fans and director-hopefuls-of-the-future to enter the annual amateur filmmaking competition Done in 60 Seconds, where the winner will get to attend the glittering, A-list extravaganza, otherwise known as the Jameson Empire Awards 2012 in London on 25 March 2012 to collect their prize. In no more than 60 seconds, film buffs are required to recreate their favourite, iconic movie from any genre by creating a one minute masterpiece.
One Irish entry will be chosen by an expert panel of judges including Jim Sheridan, Eoin Macken, John Maguire, Lisa Cannon, Gordon Hayden and Naomi Sheridan to represent Ireland at the International Done in 60 Seconds Awards in London. To take part in this year's Done in 60 Seconds competition, grab some mates, blag a camera from somewhere, get shooting and upload your masterpiece to www.jamesonempirediss.com before January 20th 2012.
Whatever it is and however fans choose to make it, it has to be no more than 60 seconds long. In a mere minute you can defeat the bad guy, get the girl and ride off into the sunset, so what are you waiting for? Grab your mates, get your camera and start shooting the shortest of short films!
Film fans from all over the world can enter to pit their 60 second home-movie-masterpieces against the best of the rest from over 19 countries across the globe. Once the necessary prepping, shooting and editing is completed, wannabe directors can upload their work via jamesonempirediss.com. This year entries will also go live on the Done in 60 Seconds You Tube channel (youtube.com/jamesonempirediss), where the public can view entries from all over the world and cast a vote for their favourite.
Once the shortlisted nominees from each country have been chosen they will be flown to London to compete in a live global final on 23 March, where an international panel of celebrity judges will decide the five best entries. The five finalists will get to attend the glamorous Jameson Empire Awards two days later, where the ultimate winner will be unveiled and handed their very own Jameson Empire Award whilst sharing the stage with legends of the silver screen.
The short-list in 2011 came from as far afield as Kazakhstan, Turkey, Chile, Sweden and the Netherlands. Movie choices were diverse and the 2011 list included box-office successes like Oscar®-nominated The Social Network, Inception and 127 Hours as well as classics like Aliens, Jaws, Psycho and The Exorcist.
“Last year’s winning entry was just excellent and we cannot wait to see the calibre of film-making talent that 2012 will bring to Done in 60 Seconds” commented Mark Dinning, Editor of Empire Magazine. Victorious in 2011, Maeve Stam from The Netherlands impressed the judges with her hilariously low-fi take on self-surgery nightmare flick, 127 Hours by creating an ‘office environment’ parody of the box office smash. Stam was crowned the Done in 60 Seconds winner in 2011, collecting her award on stage from Chris O’Dowd and Neil Marshall.
This year, Jameson and Empire are hoping that even more entries will flood in with the competition being opened up to an ever-increasing global market. Commenting on the awards Howard Southern, International Marketing Director for Jameson said: “We’re immensely proud of our continued partnership with Empire and we always look forward to the Jameson Empire Awards. The Done in 60 Seconds competition gives people the chance to show a fresh and fun take on their favourite movies and we cannot wait to start going through the entries for 2012.”
The Jameson Empire Awards celebrate the film industry’s success stories of the year with Empire Magazine readers voting for the winners. The awards ceremony is deemed by many in the industry as the most fun awards in the British movie calendar, making it the perfect match for Jameson.
