In news that’s sure to disappoint fans of the original and it’s massive cast, The Expendables 2 has been confirmed as a PG-13 release. The original had it’s fair share of extreme violence and was slapped with an R rating in the States. It looks like the sequel was heading the same way, before the intervention of one Chuck Norris:
"In 'Expendables 2', there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. For this reason, many young people wouldn't be able to watch this. But I don't play in movies like this. Due to that, I said I wouldn't be a part of that if the hardcore language is not erased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13."
Sylvester Stallone was quick to defend the decision however and told Ain’t It Cool News:
"The PG13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry."
While it’s hard not to admire Chuck Norris’ stance, it does seem to be at odds with the over the top action that you’d expect following the first. Still though, it’s hard not to be excited by the thought of seeing Sly, Arnie, Bruce Willis and some of the other biggest action stars in cinema history on the big screen together this Summer.
The Expendables 2 is due for release on the 17th of August 2012.
