Ever since the movie adaption of Wanted became a huge hit, writer Mark Millar has become the comic book J.K. Rowling with pretty much all of his works been optioned to be adapted for film. He scored his biggest hit with super hero comedy Kick Ass, in which a normal kid decides to become a comic book style vigilante. It starred Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, and Nicholas Cage. Ever since it's release there has been talk of a sequel, provisionally titled Balls To The Wall. But as time went on, the mainly young cast started getting older, and the creative team, thanks to the movie, found their profile surge. It seemed more and more like a distant dream. When director Matthew Vaughn and writer Jane Goldman were reported to be not returning for it, most people took that as the project being dead.
But talking to Scottish newspaper The Daily Record, Millar revealed the the sequel is planned to shoot this summer, alongside an adaption of his book American Jesus. I assume a new writer and director have been found, but no information was given on who they might be, or whether the original cast will be returning.
Millar is working with Vaughn on The Secret Service, a spy tale about a London hooligan who become a James Bond-esque super spy. The project is being developed in much the same way to Kick Ass, with Millar writing the comic in tandem with Vaughn working on the movie. For Kick Ass, it led to a movie very differnet from it's source material, so time will tell how much these versions differ from each other. The director is also working on adapting Millar's latest book, Superior, about a 12 year old boy with Multiple Sclerosis who is granted a magic wish which turns him into his favorite super hero.
