Al Pacino has played bad guys in the past most notably Michael Corleone and Tony Montana and he will follow them up by being the bad guy in the new Despicable Me movie. The role of El Macho was originally offered to Javier Bardem who has now been replaced by Pacino, while there is no word yet if it is a straight replacement or if a new bad guy will take the place of El Macho, given the production length for these movies and a release scheduled for next year it is likely to be a straight swap. It appears the rest of the cast from the first movie will be back again with Steve Carell once more voicing villain turned hero Gru.
The first film was based around Gru a super villain complete with extremely cute minions determined to be the worst of the worst before a group of orphans won his heart and turned him to the good side. the first film was released with very mixed reviews but having grossed over $500 million worldwide compared to a cost of under $70 million it was always likely that a sequel was on the way. The film currently titled “Despicable Me 2” has no official release date yet but June 28th 2013 is being reported as a likely release.
