Alexander Payne, writer/director of About Schmidt, Sideways and this year’s Oscar (and just about everything else) nominated The Descendants, is to be recognised as the American Cinema Editors filmmaker of the year.
The ACE Board of Directors justified their selection in a press release, by using nice adjectives like “fresh”, “exciting”, “socially concious” and “satirical” to describe Payne’s unique brand of cinematic storytelling.
The Descendants is nominated for 5 Academy Awards, with George Clooney firmly in the race to collect the Best Actor prize for what has been widely described by critics as the performance of his career to date.
Synopsis: A land baron tries to re-connect with his two daughters after his wife suffers a boating accident.
The film is already released in the States and in Ireland.
Payne will be recognised at the 62nd annual ACE awards and will receive his Golden Eddie (worst name for an award ever?) at the ceremony on the 18th of February.
