Last Tuesday I boarded a train to Dublin. Last Tuesday I had a few meetings. Last Tuesday I was on stage with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, introducing the pair as they began a 2 night stint in Vicar Street. Last Tuesday night, after a mad dash across Dublin City, I attended a screening of Reservoir Dogs, put on by The Jameson Cult Film Club. Granted I got there later than expected, and I had missed the opening shenanigans. But I grabbed a seat and took in the view. As opposed to just projecting a movie onto a screen, the Jameson Cult Film Club not only recreate the set, but they put on live theatrics as well. So, when it came to Reservoir Dogs, it was a sight to behold. Set in the IFSC (CHQ Building) the warehouse in Tanantino’s masterpiece was recreated, and on the roof of the “warehouse” was the actual screen. On a number of occasions, in major scenes; actors, who to their credit looked quite a bit like their on screen counterparts, ran onto the set.
In perfect synchronisation they acted out what was going on, right down to Mr. Orange, who laid there, motionless throughout the entire movie, with the obvious exception. And while you’d think these live theatrics (complete with incredibly loud gun fire) would pose a distraction, they didn’t. Surprisingly they added to the actual ambience and atmosphere, and because of the talented timing from the actors, you never missed a beat. It was simply a phenomenal movie going experience. And following the screening of Dogs, Mr.Blonde himself, Michael Madsen took to the stage for a bit of a Q&A, with Rick O Shea. If you ever have an opportunity to attend a Jameson Cult Film Club screening, beg, borrow or cut off someones ear to get tickets. It’s not to be missed.
Last Tuesday was truly a 5 star experience.
