The Visual Effects Society Awards were held yesterday in the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Rango picked up 4 awards including Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Motion Picture. The ILM movie does certainly have quite the momentum behind it going into the Oscars. Either way, Rango, is a superb movie and the animation is a real flex of Industrial (Light & Magic) muscle.
Also on the night, Stan Lee received the Lifetime Achievement Award and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull (Blade Runner, 2001, Close Encounters) received the Georges Méliès Award. Trumbull is the son of Donal Trumbull who created the visual effects for The Wizard of Oz in 1939.
