I absolutely loved The Muppets, so of course my head exploded with happiness when a sequel was announced. But along with the announcement, there were rumors that Jason Segel, who got the ball rolling on bringing Kermit, Miss Piggy et al back to the big screen, as well as serving as executive producer, co-writing with Nicholas Stoller, and starring in the film, would not return. Now those rumors have being confirmed. It's understandable since he has a very busy schedule with his T.V. show How I Met Your Mother, and a number of film projects on the horizon.
Speaking to Collider, Segel said his main goal was always to bring The Muppets back, and that he did. "My goal was to bring The Muppets back, and I did that leaving them in very good hands, my writing partner and James Bobin, the director. I did what I set out to do, and now I wanna pursue more human-related projects (laughs)".
While Segel did have a big hand in the first film, it's evident from the first film that all of the creative team have a love for and investment in the characters, so I have no doubt the sequel will continue what The Muppets started.
