The third in Dan Brown's Robert Langdon books, The Lost Symbol moves the action away from the Vatican and numerous religious mysteries, so prominent in Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code, and delves into the shadowy world of the Freemasons. It was obvious a film adaption of the book would happen, considering how well the previous two have done. What is looking unlikely is the creative team behind it. Ron Howard, director of the previous two films, will only serve as producer this time, and no director has been announced, though Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go, One Hour Photo) has emerged as the front runner. Now a new screenwriter, Danny Strong (Recount, Game Change), is attached to the project. He will take over writing duties from Steve Knight and Brown himself.
It is expected Tom Hanks will reprise his role as symbologist Robert Langdon for the film, which finds Langdon summoned to Washington D.C. to find the long lost Mason's Pyramid before an old friend of his is executed.
