Currently filming under the fake name of Still Seas, Pacific Rim is the latest product from the mind of Guillermo Del Toro, a giant monster vs giant robot epic that has me hoping that it will be the next Godzilla. The director is remaining spectacularly tight lipped on the project, which he began working on after leaving The Hobbit, and after his pet project, an adaption of HP Lovecraft's At The Mountains Of Madness, with James Cameron fell through.
Filming is currently taking place for the film, which stars Idris Elba and Clifton Collins Jr., and the first images of the project have leaked of a disaster scene shot in Toronto, made up to look like Tokyo (those Godzilla comparisons are looking more and more apt.)
The pictures are courtesy of CBC News, which also has a video tour of the set.
These are pretty much are all we've seen of the movie so far, but coming from Del Toro, whose unique grasp of visuals can be seen in Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy franchise, you can imagine what crazy designs he has come up with for the monsters. Robot 6 have revealed that comic artist Guy Davis, best known for his work on Hellboy spin off BPRD, was the movies concept artist. Below is a panel of one of issues, so is this like something we could look forward to when Pacific Rim hits big screens July 12th 2013?
