The series aired from 1974-1980, and starred as James Garner as the fast talking Jim Rockford, an ex-con turned private eye who took on cases other private eyes deemed hopeless. There was previously an attempt to resurrect the series on T.V., with Dermot Mulroney in the lead role, but it didn't move forward after complaints that the pilot wasn't well written and the lead was miscast.
This new adaption will be written by David Levien and Brian Koppelman, who've worked together before on Rounders and Oceans Thirteen. No director has been attached yet.
Re-runs of the show were part of my television diet when I was younger, and I have nothing but fond memories of it. While I am usually wary of big screen re makes of T.V. shows, Vaughn is a good fit for the character, known for his fast talking comedy roles. Guess time will tell on the project.
