Filming begins on the Alan Taylor's sequel to Thor in five days, and word has arrived that Christopher Eccleston will be joining the cast as Malekith The Accursed, the movies big bad and leader of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. He beats out Mads Mikkelsen to the role, who had to decline the role due to his commitments as Dr, Hannibal Lecter in the upcoming T.V. show, Hannibal. Eccleston joins returning cast Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, and new cast member Eugene Levy, who replaces Josh Dallas as Fandral, the Robin Hood-esque member of the Warriors Three.
Not much is known about the story at this stage, though a visit to other worlds on the World Tree is a given, considering the title and appearance of the Dark Elves, and the movie is said to have a more Viking-influenced look and feel, down playing the science as magic aspect of the first movie.
Release date is set for 8th November 2013.
