In a surprising development today, it has come to light that Bruce Willis is contemplating legal action against computer giants Apple. The row is over Willis’ wish to leave his iTunes library to his children when he dies. The Die Hard actor is alarmed that his music collection which by all accounts is quite extensive will revert back to Apple in the event of his death. The star is looking intp ways of alowing his three daughters to legally inherit the collection.
His lawyers are said to be currently looking at the possibility of setting up "family trusts" to act as legal holders of the downloaded music. In addition, Willis is also said to be preparing a legal bid taking Apple to court over the issue.
"Lots of people will be surprised on learning all those tracks and books they have bought over the years don't actually belong to them," said Willis’ solicitor Chris Walton "It's only natural you would want to pass them on to a loved one. The law will catch up, but ideally Apple and the like will update their policies and work out the best solution for their customers."
This news will come as a surprise to many customers, myself included and any outcome regarding the case if it goes to court will affect many of us.
Willis is also considering supporting legal action currently underway in five US states to give people more rights to share music they have purchased. The Hollywood actor, is an avid music lover and musician. He even had chart success in the UK with a No 2 hit in 1987 with a cover version of the Drifters' Under the Boardwalk, willis reportedly owns thousands of hours' worth of music on numerous iPods and related devices. Is he going too far on this one? Or is he sticking up for what is right? Let us know what you think, either way it’s an interesting story. We’ll keep you posted…
