Soon to be seen traversing across the wilds of Middle-Earth in The Hobbit, Martin Freeman's next role will see him staying a little closer to home when he stars in Edgar Wright's The Worlds End. Freeman will join Simon Pegg, Eddie Marsan, Nick Frost and Paddy Considine as the five friends at the heart of the film who find themselves caught up in the end of the world while re-enacting a legendary pub crawl from their youth.
Nothing much else is known about the film, though speculation is rife that the plot will hinge on an alien invasion, which will be the final part of Wright, Pegg, and Frost's Cornetto trilogy (Shaun Of The Dead, and Hot Fuzz being the other two).
Synopsis: 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End.
As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
