Filming began today on Jose Padilha's re-imaging of Paul Verhoven's classic Robocop, and it brings us the first look at Joel Kinnaman as the titular cyborg. The new design is a complete overhaul of the original: obviously, it's a different colour, but the suit is also more streamlined, and the visor looks to be fully translucent. I liked the bulkiness of the original, and the new black colour scheme screams Batman. But what really intrigues me is why his right hand is exposed? A plot point inadvertently revealed? Am I reading too much into it? We'll see.
Synopsis: The year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life.
