Australian actor Sam Worthington is reported to be the lead in an adaptation Tim Winton’s novel The Raiders. Worthington who achieved much acclaim in Avatar has had mixed success at the since 2009’s smash hit. Roles in Clash of The Titans which was ok or Terminator salvation which was better, still hasn’t brought near the same credit as what he achieved in Avatar. With the sequels some time off the actor is said to be in the frame for The Raiders which will be directed by Robert Connolly.
Here's the official synopsis of the book:
After traveling through Europe for two years, Scully and his wife Jennifer wind up in Ireland, and on a mystical whim of Jennifer’s, buy an old farmhouse which stands in the shadow of a castle. While Scully spends weeks alone renovating the old house, Jennifer returns to Australia to liquidate their assets. When Scully arrives at Shannon Airport to pick up Jennifer and their seven-year-old daughter, Billie, it is Billie who emerges — alone. There is no note, no explanation, not so much as a word from Jennifer, and the shock has left Billie speechless. In that instant, Scully’s life falls to pieces.
With Michael Hirst, Francesca Brill and Brooks-Smith adapting the screenplay it all looks promising. Add Timothy Spall and Charles Dance to the mix and we have what should be an intriguing project. The film is aiming towards a release in January 2014. The project is an Australian and United Kingdom co-production, so there is a fair chance this might not reach a wider release in the United States unfortunately.
Worthington is also said to be working on Thunder Run with Gerard Butler.
