In what was to mark the third time working with the director, Tobey Maguire signed on for a small role in Ang Lee's Life Of Pi. But now it has been revealed that the actor has seen his scenes cut and the role re-cast, apparently due to being too famous. Among a cast of relative unknowns, it makes sense. Not alot, but some.
Speaking of the decision, Lee has said, "To be consistent with the other casting choices made for the film, I decided to go with an entirely international cast. I very much admire Tobey, and look forward to working with him again in the future." Maguire also issued a statement, "I fully support Ang's decision to go a different direction for this role in Life of Pi. Ang shared a lot of the film with me, and what I saw was absolutely beautiful." The role, that of a writer who interviews the main character, has now gone to Rafe Spall, last seen in Prometheus.
Synopsis: The story of an Indian boy named Pi, a zookeepers son, who finds himself in the company of a hyena, zebra, orangutan, and a Bengal tiger after a shipwreck sends them adrift in the Pacific Ocean.
