Word in the Hollywood hills is rife with reports that John Cusack could be lined up to play Rush Limbagh in an upcoming biopic. The project is in it’s infancy but Betty Thomas’ film could centre on the radio host’s rise to the top spanning three decades. Limbaugh’s show is the highest rated show in the States with listening figures exceeding 15 Million.
Thomas previously brought the biopic Private Parts – about the controversial "shock jock" Howard Stern – to cinemas, in which Stern starred as himself. The untitled Limbaugh biopic will according to a True Crimes Productions
spokesman: "explore the rise and reinvention of American talk radio, and Limbaugh's continued influence and impact over the last three decades in that world," . Cusack is also set to take a producer's role. To give you a taste of Limbaugh’s controversial musings he recently said this about Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight with reference to Bane:
“So this evil villain in the new Batman movie is named Bane. And there's discussion out there as to whether or not this was purposeful and whether or not it will influence voters," said Limbaugh. "A lot of people are going to see the movie. And it's a lot of brain-dead people – entertainment, the pop culture crowd – and they're going to hear Bane in the movie and they're going to associate Bain.
"And the thought is that when they're going to start paying attention to the campaign later in the year and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, not Bain Capital but Romney and Bain, that these people will start thinking back to the Batman movies: 'Oh yeah, I know who that is!'"
The outburst was in reference to Mitt Romney’s involvement in the row over investment company Bain Capital in the 1980’s. Cusack’s portrayal would be an interesting prospect over such a layered and divisive character. We’ll keep you posted…
