The new animated adventure to hit cinemas this week, Rise of the Guardians is another breath-taking release from DreamWorks. We thought this would make a great opportunity to look at some of the most colourful, hilarious and downright spectacular feature films that DreamWorks have been treating audiences to over the past few decades!

Shrek (2001)
It’s hard to believe that it has been over a decade since this legendary film franchise first hit our screens. Shrek, an intimidating green ogre had always lived in peaceful solitude in his swamp within the enchanted woods as his kind were feared by the evil (and vertically challenged) ruler Lord Farquaad and the village people. With an amazing voice cast and some superb one liners, Shrek really is a film that can be enjoyed by the whole family!
Madagascar (2005)
Four not-so-wild animals won our hearts in 2005 in the first instalment from Madagascar, namely Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo and Melman the Giraffe. Having lived a rather sheltered existence in New York’s Central Park Zoo - they experience quite a shock when they escape only to find themselves on a ship headed for Africa. Another great celebrity line up, the film will not only make you laugh, but you’ll find yourself really loving all the characters and wanting them to do well along in their journey to get home.
Over The Hedge (2006)
There are few things more loveable than talking forest creatures. However, Over The Hedge’s leading character RJ the raccoon turns out to be more of the mischievous, con-artist variety! When RJ is caught stealing food from a hungry bear, he is threatened to be killed unless he returns every single item. Along his quest, RJ meets a group of forest animals and decides to use them in his plan to steal from human kitchens. But as he gets closer to achieving his goal, RJ realises that what he really wants from these woodland critters isn’t actually their help but their friendship.
Kung Fu Panda (2008)
A pudgy panda bear named Po became an unlikely hero in 2005 when he was tasked to become a Kung Fu Master in order to save his village from a treacherous enemy. Jack Black makes a great Kung Fu Panda along with a host of other famous voices, and our personal highlight is a brilliant Rocky-esque training montage scene which is sure to give you a giggle. Definitely one worth looking out for if you’ve not seen it before!
How To Train Your Dragon (2010)
Of Dreamworks’ more recent creations, 2010 saw the release of the critically acclaimed How To Train Your Dragon. Set in a Viking world where dragons are the ultimate enemy, a young Viking boy named Hiccup is determined to follow in the footsteps of his tribe and become a dragon slayer. However, his plans to quite go as he’d hoped! This is a brilliant story, and you can’t help but fall in love with the wonderful dragons! The entire scene leading up to the moment Hiccup first touches the dragon, Toothless, on his snout is a brilliant scene that doesn’t need words to be truly powerful.
With a solid track record from Dreamworks you can rest easy that Rise of the Guardians will deliver the goods. The movie hits cinemas from 30th November.
