Late last week, director Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) offered us some clues to the mysterious 1952, a sci-fi project he is working on with Prometheus co-writer Damon Lindelof, with George Clooney attached to star. It didn't clear much up, except pointing towards Walt Disney playing a part. Now, Disney have revealed the official title for the project, Tomorrowland.
Those who know their Disney will immediately find the name familiar, being one of five theme lands of several Disney resorts (visitors to Disneyland Paris will know it as Discoveryland), housing the famous Space Mountain roller coaster. I think it's a safe bet to say the movie will revolve around the park, and if the 1952 setting is kept, even chronicle the creation of the first Tomorrowland, which opened in 1955, with some sci-fi shenanigans thrown in for good measure. This concept isn't new for Disney, with Jon Favreau attached for several years now to The Magic Kingdom, an adventure film about a family trapped in an alternate reality version of Disneyland.
We can only speculate about Tomorrowland for now until we get some official word, but with a release date set for December 19th 2014, we should be hearing something in the coming months.
