To be fair, The Phantom Menace up conversion into 3D was pretty decent. And it did OK business as well, with $43 odd million going into a bank account somewhere. The plan was a slew of 3D re-releases over the coming years right up to Jedi.
Depending on your stance on re-releases and 3D this may well upset you, or you may also start celebrating. Either way, things have now being postponed.
A brief statement on Star Wars.com reads
"Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans."
So that's that then. I wonder would further re-releases have over saturated the market with movies and taking the spotlight away from Episode VII, which makes sense to give some form of exclusiveness to J.J. Abrams take on what is so many peoples favourite movie franchise.
