It looks like Disney want to make the most of their purchase of the Lucasfilm, beyond just a new Star Wars trilogy. They have made their intentions known that they want a series of spin off's focusing on individual characters from a galaxy far, far away, but up until now, what direction they would head was nothing but rumour. Now we have a clear idea what the studio has planned, with Entertainment Weekly reporting the first two characters getting the spin-off treatment: Boba Fett, bad ass bounty hunter, and Han Solo, in a story that would focus on his younger days.
It's still early days of development, Disney haven't officially announced anything, and things could change drastically, but at the moment these movies should hit cinemas after J.J. Abram's Star Wars: Episode VII takes it bow in 2015. Considering the last time we saw Fett, he fell into a Sarlacc Pit to be digested over the course of a thousand years, it is safe to say his film will be set before Return Of The Jedi, possibly seeing him on some sort of inter-galactic adventure that leads directly into his appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. There is no word on a director, but Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger, The Rocketeer) has been campaigning for years to direct a movie focusing on the character, so I would not be surprised to see his name thrown into the hat. As for the Han Solo movie, it is said to be set between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope, showing the lovable scoundrel's origins, and how he got into the world of smuggling. If it does go ahead, we might finally see the much talked about Kessel Run, which Solo's ship, The Millenium Falcon made in under twelve parsecs, as opposed to the usual 18.
As is with all Star Wars rumours, it is best to take them with a pinch of salt before we get some concrete confirmation.
