It was revealed in January that Jurassic Park 4 was going ahead, and now Universal Pictures have announced that Colin Trevorrow has signed on to direct the sequel. Trevorrow's sole feature before this was the little seen but highly acclaimed independent film Safety Not Guaranteed, starring Aubery Plaza and Mark Duplass. This is not the first time Trevorrow has been linked with a big budget franchise. His name was rumoured to be in contention for Star Wars Episode VII before it went to JJ Abrams. There is obviously something there that makes execs trust him with their million dollar properties.
Not much else is known about Jurassic Park 4, other than it will be presented in 3D (not surprising, since the original film is getting a 3D re-release in April), and has a tentative release date of June 13, 2014.
