20 years ago today, Kevin Smith began work on his debut Clerks, the film that brought this foul mouthed, dirty minded New Jersey native into the public eye. This morning, at 4.20 A.M., he began writing Clerks III. The story of slackers Dante and Radall, Clerks is something Smith return to the well for every couple of years, never really feeling finished with it. He has talked about Clerks III a lot in the last few months, envisioning it as anything from a stage play to a novel to a web series. Announcing the projects beginning on Facebook, we have confirmation that it will be a movie, with Smith writing:
"THE BEGINNING OF THE END
20 years ago today, we started shooting CLERKS.
20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing CLERKS III.
It's been like hanging out with old friends.
And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion...
CLERKS III will be the best film I'll ever make."
This is all the details we have on Clerks III at this stage. Smith is notorious for spreading himself thin over numerous projects, so there is no telling when the film will be ready to shoot. But no doubt his fans will be watching this very closely.
