1994's The Crow is one of my all time favorite films, and one that holds a lot of personal memories for me. So over the last few years talks of a remake haven't left me in the best of moods. It's not that I'm against another The Crow film, an adaption of the James O'Barr comic he wrote to deal with the death of his girlfriend. There have been a lot of sequels over the years and I would totally be down with another sequel, it's that they are remaking the story of Eric Draven (played by Brandon Lee in the original) rising from the grave in search of revenge that was so perfectly told back in 1994. But I can't stop progress, and The Crow remake marches on, with a new actor in talks for the lead role.
James McAvoy, Bradley Cooper, and Mark Wahlberg were all mooted for the role over the years, and now Tom Hiddleston has put his hat in the ring to play Draven, having recently had dinner with the producers, and sending them a make up test for the role he did on his own. He will undergo a proper make up test in the coming days (Draven's iconic make up is an important element to the film). Hiddleston is a fantastic actor, and his high profile off the back of Thor and The Avengers will only help the project, but I still can't shake quite shake my personal feeling against this project.
