We continue with the week of celebrating being 4 years online and here’s another feature. This time, Tom White came up with 4 of most prolific people in film in the last four years, entitled 4 from 4!
Joss Whedon
Besides some script work for Toy Story and Alien: Resurrection, amongst many others, Joss Whedon mainly resided in the realm of T.V., gaining a massive fan base for Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly. But it was when he signed on to direct last years The Avengers, the film Marvel Studios had been building towards since Iron Man, that the man became a household name. The Avengers went on to become the third highest grossing film of all time, securing Whedon's place as guiding voice in Marvel's plans to build a shared cinematic universe. He also gained massive amounts of praise for his work on Cabin in the Woods, a script he co-wrote with director Drew Goddard, a modern deconstruction and parody of the horror genre, and Much Ado About Nothing, a modern retelling of the classic Shakespeare play shot in his house in between a break in filming The Avengers, and the first film from his micro budget studio Bellweather.
Christopher Nolan
Sure, 2008's The Dark Knight was when we finally took notice of Christopher Nolan, but in the last four years his star has continued to rise. 2010's Inception showed he had a real knack for smart, original sci-fi, and also showing the story and character is just as important as the big ideas, and his trilogy capping The Dark Knight Rises cemented his position as Warner Bros.' golden boy. So much is their faith in him, they approached him to lay the foundations for Man of Steel, Warner Bros. Superman reboot and the hoped for first installment of series of movies that will ultimately lead to the Justice League. The studio also signed a landmark deal with Paramount, signing over full rights to further Friday the 13th and South Park movies, for a chance to co-distribute Nolan's mysterious new movie Interstellar. That's the power of Nolan right there.
Michael Fassbender
2009's Inglorious Basterds really put the half German/ half Irish (He's ours!!) actor on the map, leading to many high profile roles, from Magneto in X-Men: First Class to Carl Jung in A Dangerous Method, in a very short space of time. In 2011, he seemed like the hardest working actor in Hollywood, appearing in five films, making sure his face wasn't out of the cinema long. He's worked with some of the top directors, including Ridley Scott, Steven Soderbergh, and David Cronenberg, but it is his partnership with director Steve McQueen that he is most known for, putting in a devastatingly fantastic performance in Shame.
Jennifer Lawrence
No one knew this young actress before Winters Bone, but her Oscar nominated turn in that movie opened a world of doors for her. Solid turns in dramas such as Like Crazy and The Beaver gave way to more high profile work, snagging the role of Mystique in X-Men: First Class, and coming to the world's attention as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. She would also return to the Oscar's in 2012 to get the award she missed out two years previous, for Silver Linings Playbook, as well as providing the best post-Oscars interviews in history.
