It's safe to say zombies are big business these days, with World War Z cleaning it up at the box office, and The Walking Dead proving to be a smash hit on the small screen. So it's no surprise that word is that one of the all time classics of the genre, 1985's Day of the Dead, is set to rise from the grave. The third part of George A. Romero's classic zombie series, the film concerned a group of scientists and soldiers holed up in an underground base, trying to find a way to reverse the zombie plague. Romero himself considers it the favorite of all his zombie movies, and featured the classic character of Bub, a zombie who was trained to get in touch with his lost human side.
Milenium Films, Taurus Entertainment are teaming up with Texas Chainsaw 3D producers Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell to bring the remake (the second remake after a straight to DVD version in 2008) to the big screen, with production set to start in the winter for a 2014 release. Grobman has stated they want to honour the original while also updating it for a new age, and it will see a return to the classic slow moving, shuffling zombie, as opposed to the agile, fast zombie made popular by Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake (which seems to have no connection to this movie), Zombieland, and, of course, World War Z.
